Griegs wife Nina

- So why is it then, that the songs play such a prominent role in my production? Quite simply the fact that I, like other mortals, once in mye life was highly gifted. And that gift was Love. I loved a young girl with a beautiful voice and just as beautiful a delivery. This girl became my wife and life partner to this very day. I venture to say that for me she is still the only true interpreter of my songs! My songs came about as of necessity and were all made for her...

Sat 19th
PROGRAM in DETAIL

Conductors: Håkon Matti Skrede and Geir Atle Stangenes

Collegium Musicum was founded in 1978 by prof. Jan Christensen with the purpose to establish a music association where amateurs and professionals could play together for mutual benfits and inspiration. Through the years, Collegium Musicum has become a vigorous ensemble withapprx. 100 musicians and singers. The orchestra consists of amateurs on a high level together with professional musicians. The choir has a professional director and has a high and ambitious level, where the recruitements to become a member are quite strict.
Collegium Musicum aims consciously to include young and promising artists who are about to start their professional carriere, as well as colloborating with well known artists and conductors. Through this successful mixture, the Bergen audience has for years been given concerts of high quality.

Collegium Musicum offers each year 6 concerts, although both the orchestra and choir perform also in separat events

Geir Atle Stangenes was raised at Stord outside Bergen and started to play violin with his father at the age of 5. He later became a pupil of Stephen Penny and Henryk Kniejskij (both former members of the Bergen Philharmonic), and later, with Frantisek Veselka and Bjarne Fiskum. Stangenes has participated in master classes with Grigori Zhislin, Camilla Wicks, and Lars Anders Tomter. He has been a member of the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra since 1994 as a part of the 1.violin group. He is also the concert master and string leader at Collegium Musicum, and has also been a member of Bit 20 ensemble for 10 years.

Håkon Matti Skrede, tenor and conductor, had his first solo appearance aged 12 as a boy soprano in George Crumb's Ancient voices of children. The following years he attended Drakensberg Boys’ Choir School in South Africa. He holds two 4-year postgraduate degrees: in violin and singing. In 2006 he earned a Master degree in singing from the Grieg Academy. Håkon Matti has also studied choral conducting at the Bergen University College and conducting with Christian Ashley-Botha (South Africa).

He is a popular choir instructor and is today the Chorus Master of Den Nye Opera and Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra. Since 2004 he has been the Collegiûm Mûsicûms Choir conductor and leads performances regularly with them.
