SIgne Bakke has studied with Jan Henrik Kayser at the Bergen Music Conservatory and with Jens Harald Bratlie at the Norwegian Academy of Music, where she received her diploma in 1986. At the age of 18, she won first prize at the National Youth Competition, and at the age of 23, she made her debut in Oslo.
She has been engaged as soloist with various symphony orchestras, among others the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra. In addition to her performances as soloist, Bakke has over the years been very active as an accompanist and chamber musician. She si one of the regular pianists at Troldhaugen, the home of Edvard Grieg, and in 2001, she recorded a CD at Troldhaugen with works by Grieg. Signe Bakke is Assistent Professor at the Grieg Academy of Music in Bergen.
