- So why is it then, that the songs play such a prominent role in my production? Quite simply the fact that I, like other mortals, once in mye life was highly gifted. And that gift was Love. I loved a young girl with a beautiful voice and just as beautiful a delivery. This girl became my wife and life partner to this very day. I venture to say that for me she is still the only true interpreter of my songs! My songs came about as of necessity and were all made for her... (From Griegs diary)
The Archimede Italian string quartet’s main purpose is to spread the most significative chamber music repertoire. The four Sicilian members link to this purpose their different individualities, always keeping a passionate performance which never neglects the technical rigour, the emotional involvement and the stylistic clearness. Their artistic research ranges over a wide musical field, from Haydn to Shostakovich, passing through three centuries of chamber music literature, with some rare forays into the contemporary repertoire. The Archimede string quartet collaborates with several eminent musicians from different countries, as they believe that playing music together makes closer individuals and different cultures. The quartet is regularly guest at musical foundations, festivals and theatres in Italy and abroad.
