FOLKY FAIRYTALES
Saxyon Duo
Marijke Schröer, saxophone
Ellen Zijm, accordeon

Books and films tell you a story, but when listening to music you are more involved: you create your own story. Each person has his own story and it’s always special. Saxyyon brings together musical fairy tales, fables, merry dances, sad marches and exciting adventures, where Edvard Grieg is also included (of course!)

BIOGRAPHY
What is Saxyon? Marijke Schröer and Ellen Zijm together on stage, for all those who dare ... to travel the roads unpaved and want to discover the possibilities that the combination of a saxophone and an accordion has to offer.

A fresh and merry ensemble bringing a whirlwind of musical styles on different musical instruments, and telling beautiful stories and humorous anecdotes about the music.

A pair that has had a flying start: delivering their first concert only 3 weeks after they met, playing for ‘Live Music Now’ foundation only 3 weeks thereafter, and receiving the first composition exclusively for Saxyon only 5 weeks later.

A versatile pair performing jukebox-concerts, providing special programs for children, playing chamber music concerts and accompanying choirs.

Folky Fairytales

Books and films tell you a story, but when listening to music you’re more involved: you create your own story. Each person has his own story, and it’s always special. For ‘Folky Folktales’, Saxyon brought together musical fairy tales, fables, merry dances, sad marches and exciting adventures. With the appealing music from – amongst others – Edvard Grieg, Leoš Janáček, Camille Saint-Saëns, Bohuslav Martinů and Charles Gounod, Marijke and Ellen tell interesting stories. Join them with your own imagination!
